Join us for a remarkable outdoor adventure designed exclusively for individuals who are blind or visually impaired! The Hearts For Sight White Cane camping trip offers a unique and inclusive experience, providing participants with an opportunity to embrace nature, conquer challenges, and cultivate vital skills while fostering independence and self-confidence.
During this three-day camping trip, you’ll be actively involved in various aspects of camping, including setting up and breaking down tents, cooking meals, set up and clean up after meals, and acquiring fundamental outdoor skills like wilderness first aid and Leave No Trace principles. This immersive experience will empower you to discover new abilities and create lasting memories.
On Saturday morning, we will set out on a series of activities, perhaps even embarking on an adventurous hike around the campground. As the afternoon unfolds, a generous amount of time will be at our disposal to relax and relish the serene beauty of the sandy shores at Leo Carrillo State Beach.
Rest assured, Hearts for Sight and a California state program will provide all necessary equipment and food, ensuring a worry-free experience. You only need to bring your personal gear and, most importantly, a sense of fun and adventure! Please note that transportation to the campsite, located between Malibu and Oxnard, will be arranged individually. 🆓 No charge for participation and 📣 Space is extremely limited

Camping trip where VIPs (visually impaired persons) can immerse themselves in community science programs which leverage their knowledge and abilities and use them to empower the learner to directly contribute to the conservation and protection of Leo Carrillo State Park, as well as natural areas in their own communities. VIPs will have opportunities to combine mobility training and sensory awareness with explorations of the park’s beaches, backcountry, and Historic District, all while integrating scientific topics like oceanography and ecology.

Are you interested in making a meaningful impact and being a part of an incredible outdoor adventure? We invite you to join us as a sighted volunteer for the Hearts For Sight White Cane camping trip! This three-day excursion is specifically designed for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, offering a unique and inclusive experience that fosters independence, self-confidence, and an appreciation for nature.
During the camping trip, visually impaired participants will actively engage in various aspects of camping, including setting up and breaking down tents, cooking meals, set up and clean up after meals, and acquiring essential outdoor skills such as wilderness first aid and Leave No Trace principles. Your role as a volunteer is to provide sighted assistance to our VIPs and the group as a whole. By being a camp buddy or partner, you can enhance the immersive experience and help our VIP participants discover new abilities while creating lasting memories.
