You’ll tackle about 3.8 miles of rugged single-track trail\, winding through chaparral hillsides with a 550-foot total climb. Expect narrow paths\, uneven terrain\, and beautiful mountain views. This hike is limited to 24 participants and ideal for those seeking a physical challenge. \n🌿 The Gentle HikePrefer a relaxed pace? Together\, we’ll stroll through tall pines\, enjoy the sound of birdsong\, and recognize the incredible progress we’ve made as a community. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				What to Expect\nThis outdoor experience features three short walks\, ranging from very easy to more challenging\, so there’s something for everyone. We’ll also enjoy a special lunch in the scenic mountain setting. \nTransportation Details\nWe’re using two buses with separate pick-up points: \n\nSan Fernando Valley: Bus departs at 8:00 AM (must arrive no later than 7:45 AM)\nTemple City: Bus departs at 8:20 AM (must arrive no later than 8:05 AM)\n\nExact pick-up addresses will be shared after your RSVP is received. \nPrefer to meet us there?\nBe at Crystal Lake Campground / Recreation Area by 10:00 AM. \nWhat to Bring\n\nYour own folding\, beach\, or camping chair—anything portable and not too bulky. Directly adjacent to it\, Carbon Canyon Regional Park offers a more serene experience\, with its tranquil surroundings and family-friendly atmosphere\, all shaped by the damming of Carbon Canyon Creek. Despite the challenges faced during the 2010 California drought\, a resilient grove of towering redwood trees continues to thrive within the park’s boundaries. \nOur journey will focus on the Carbon Canyon trail\, which features smooth dirt paths\, roads\, and the occasional concrete sidewalk. The hike begins with a refreshing creek crossing\, setting the stage for a relaxing and immersive nature experience. The trail leads us into the awe-inspiring redwood grove\, providing a peaceful retreat surrounded by shade and serenity. \nFollowing our exploration of the grove\, we’ll loop back through the park\, where we can unwind and enjoy a leisurely lunch on the grassy lawns or at the picnic tables. With only four miles to cover and minimal elevation gain of 100 feet\, this hike promises to be a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation in a stunning natural setting. \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Transportation and Lunch Provided!\nHFS will provide bus transportation from designated pick-up spots in Encino and Temple City. The trail offers a mix of inclines\, with a 400-foot elevation gain\, mainly on paved and cement paths\, making it accessible for all fitness levels. There are benches and plenty of places to pause along the way. Nestled in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains\, this park is a treasure trove of natural beauty and history. From its roots as Chumash Indian land to becoming a Hollywood film backdrop\, Malibu Creek has transformed into a public wilderness sanctuary since 1976. Its diverse landscape\, including mountains\, creeks\, and wildlife\, makes it an ideal spot for a scenic adventure. \nOur hike will take us along the Ann Skager Trail Loop\, a four-mile journey that will lead us to the park’s nature center. We’ll pause for lunch at the picnic area before retracing our steps back to the trailhead. The path includes both paved and dirt sections\, and the terrain is gentle\, with a 100-foot elevation gain and loss\, making it a moderate hike suitable for most skill levels. \nTransportation Options:\nHFS is offering bus transportation to Malibu Creek. The bus will depart from Live Oak Park in Temple City at 8:00 AM\, with a second stop at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino at 8:45 AM. Our goal is to arrive at the park around 9:45 AM. After the hike\, we’ll head back to Encino aiming to get there by 3:00 PM and Temple City by 4:00 PM. You can take the winding pathways through many different plant environments. Here you will find rose gardens\, water gardens\, herb gardens and seasonal gardens to name a few. There are plant collections from all over the world\, as well as the famous Baldwin Lake with a variety of birds. Here you will find historic buildings such as a Mexican-era adobe\, an 1890s train station\, a Native American shelter\, and Elias J. Baldwin’s Queen Anne Cottage.  \nMeeting time is at 9:30am at the front gate of the Arboretum. We will stroll around the pathways through this beautiful landscape. Adjacent to it\, Carbon Canyon Regional Park provides a more laid-back\, family-friendly experience\, born from the damming of Carbon Canyon Creek. Despite facing challenges from the 2010 California drought\, a resilient grove of Redwood trees still flourishes within its bounds. \nOur expedition will primarily traverse the Carbon Canyon trail\, featuring smooth dirt paths\, roads\, and occasional concrete sidewalks. The journey kicks off with a refreshing splash as we wade through a shallow creek\, setting the tone for an immersive nature experience. Our trail leads us into the heart of the majestic redwood grove\, offering a sanctuary of shade and tranquility. \nAfter soaking in the natural wonders\, we’ll meander back through the manicured county park\, perhaps pausing for a leisurely lunch on the lush grass or picnic tables. With just four miles to cover and minimal elevation gain of 100 feet\, this trek promises a delightful blend of exploration and relaxation amidst the beauty of nature. \n \n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				HFS will provide bus transportation from designated pickup spots\, details of which will be shared upon receiving your RSVPs. The entire hike will cover approximately 4.5 miles\, with an elevation gain of about 400 feet\, mostly on one extended hill. The trail predominantly consists of paved and cemented paths\, offering charming spots to rest along the way. DESCRIPTION:Hike at Debs Park\nHearts For Sight (HFS) is excited to announce its return to Debs Regional Park in Northeast Los Angeles\, nestled in Montecito Heights near Highland Park—a serene oasis amidst the urban hustle. Our carefully curated route offers a delightful blend of the wild and the serene\, encompassing trails\, dirt roads\, and paved pathways. \nOur adventure begins at Debs Park\, accessed through the neighboring Rose Hill Park. We’ll ascend a secluded urban trail leading to a flat picnic area adorned with paved sidewalks. The journey includes a brief yet invigorating climb up a steep hill\, unveiling scenic views of Peanut Lake\, Boundary Peak\, and the historic heights of old Los Angeles. \nPlease note that a segment of this hike may pose challenges for individuals with knee issues or mobility constraints. If this applies to you\, you have the option to remain at the picnic area\, awaiting the group’s return for a communal lunch. The full round-trip trek spans approximately 3 miles with a 500-foot elevation gain. The shorter hike is 1.5-mile hike with a 100-foot gain. Please be aware that the event is subject to cancellation in case of rain. \nMeet at 8:30 AM at Rose Hill Park\, 3606 Boundary Ave\, Los Angeles\, CA 90032. Lunch will be served around 12:30 PM\, so it’s safe to ask for Access pickups at 2:30 PM.\nHFS is excited to offer a scrumptious taco lunch\, complete with all the delightful trimmings. Nestled in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu\, this scenic park has a rich history\, having once been inhabited by the Chumash Indians\, transformed into a country club\, and featured in various movies and television shows. Since 1976\, it has welcomed the public as a wilderness area\, offering a sanctuary for numerous plants\, birds\, and animals. With its rugged terrain\, mountainous landscapes\, meandering waterways\, and extensive hiking trails\, Malibu Creek State Park promises an incredible outdoor experience. \nOur journey will take us along the Ann Skager Trail Loop\, leading to the nature center\, where we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch in the picturesque picnic area before making our way back to the trailhead. The hike covers approximately four miles and includes well-maintained paved and dirt roads\, with limited automobile access\, and wide footpaths that traverse rolling terrain with a 100-foot elevation gain/loss. \nHFS is pleased to offer bus transportation to Malibu Creek. The bus will depart from Live Oak Park in Temple City at 8:00 AM\, with a second pick-up stop at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino at 8:45 AM. We will then journey to Malibu Creek State Park\, with return trips to Encino at 3:00 PM and Temple City at 4:00 PM. Specific addresses for pick-up locations will be shared when you RSVP. \nAlternatively\, you may choose to drive directly to Malibu Creek and meet the group around 9:45 AM. Meeting times at each location will be confirmed closer to the event date. \n \nSighted Guides Needed: Our hiking events are dedicated to providing visually impaired individuals (VIP) with the opportunity to explore the outdoors. Trippet Ranch\, our starting point\, is a well-frequented entry to the trails in this breathtaking locale. We’re thrilled to embark on this adventure on Sunday\, October 15\, just as the fall season begins to embrace the landscape. \nTopanga Canyon boasts a diverse array of flora\, including oak trees\, California bay laurel\, sage\, lupine\, and many more. Steeped in history\, this region was once home to the Chumash/Tongva Indigenous people\, later inhabited by Spanish missionaries\, Spanish ranchers\, and early American ranchers. Today\, it belongs to the State of California\, inviting everyone to savor its natural beauty. Our hike will span approximately 3-4 miles\, providing ample opportunities to soak in the scenery before pausing at benches for a well-deserved lunch\, fostering camaraderie. While the initial ascent and descent present a hill climbing that could pose a challenge\, particularly for individuals with knee or foot concerns. The descent down this hill will also require caution.
