The scenic route will lead us through the heart of this mesmerizing park\, providing ample opportunities to connect with nature’s serene beauty. \nAfter we’ve explored the wild landscape\, we’ll head back to the park’s civilized area for a delightful picnic lunch. Share stories and laughter with fellow nature enthusiasts as we soak in the peaceful ambiance of El Dorado. \nThe round trip distance is approximately 3 and ½ miles\, with no significant ups or downs\, making it suitable for hikers of all levels. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a beginner\, this journey promises a refreshing experience for all. \n\nWear comfortable closed-toe shoes and dress in layers\, as the weather can vary. DESCRIPTION:Hiking at Placerita Canyon State Park\, Newhall CA\n19152 Placerita Canyon Rd.\, Newhall\, CA 91321\nHappy New Year to all our hiking enthusiasts! Hearts For Sight (HFS) is very excited to invite you to our first hike for 2023! HFS is venturing out to a new hiking trail in the Newhall / Santa Clarita area. \nPlacerita Canyon State Park is near Santa Clarita and Newhall. It’s shaded by many wonderful old oak trees\, including one special tree: the Oak of the Golden Dream\, where gold was first discovered in California. The park also features a braille trail\, a nature center\, and miles of maintained trails. For this hike we’ll offer two options: a shorter hike with docents winding through their special nature trails. That’s about one mile with 100 feet of gain. For a longer hike\, the bus will drop us off at the far end of the park and we’ll hike mostly downhill\, crossing the creek several times (and maybe getting our feet wet). That’s about 2.5 miles and a 400-foot drop. Then we’ll all do the short Braille trail before coming together for lunch. This hike is sponsored by Parks California in collaboration with Sierra Club Angeles Central Group. \nHFS will provide bus transportation to Placerita Canyon. The bus will pick us up in Alhambra at 8:00 AM. There will be a second stop in Sylmar at 8:45 AM. We will spend a few hours at Placerita exploring the trails\, having a picnic\, and fun games. We anticipate getting back to Sylmar by 2:30 and back to Alhambra by 3:30 PM. Pick up location addresses will be shared when you RSVP. \nVolunteers and Sighted Guides Needed! Interests for the HFS hiking trips continue to increase\, so our need for volunteers / sighted guides also increase. No experience needed. As long as you also have a love for nature and an interest in helping\, we would love to have you join us. DESCRIPTION:Natural History Museum Multi-Sensory Trip\nHearts For Sight is visiting the Natural History Museum where we have an opportunity to experience what the museum has to offer up-close and be given an opportunity to touch and feel things that we do not normally experience when visiting a museum. \nThe Natural History Museum (NHM) occupies a special place in Los Angeles: It’s one of L.A.’s oldest cultural institutions\, and today\, it’s the anchor of an emerging cultural\, educational\, and entertainment hub in Exposition Park. They show off extraordinary specimens in exhibitions such as Age of Mammals\, the Dinosaur Hall\, the Gem and Mineral Hall\, and our beloved dioramas. But in addition to sharing the history of the planet\, they also explore the transformation around us right now: Becoming Los Angeles\, the outdoor Nature Gardens\, and the Nature Lab look at the relationship between environment and people\, past and present\, in L.A. In all of these experiences at the museum\, whether they are inside or outside\, They are interested in the intersection of nature and culture—in L.A. and beyond. \nAdvance RSVP will be required. Please watch for additional details we’ll share. \nNote: In accordance with the L.A.
