SUMMARY:Malibu Creek State Park | State Parks Hike
DESCRIPTION:Discover the Beauty of Malibu Creek State Park\nSaturday\, October 19\, 2024Trailhead: 1925 Las Virgenes Rd\, Calabasas\, CA 91302 \nCome explore Malibu Creek State Park with Hearts For Sight (HFS) and Sierra Club! Nestled in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains\, this park is a treasure trove of natural beauty and history. From its roots as Chumash Indian land to becoming a Hollywood film backdrop\, Malibu Creek has transformed into a public wilderness sanctuary since 1976. Its diverse landscape\, including mountains\, creeks\, and wildlife\, makes it an ideal spot for a scenic adventure. \nOur hike will take us along the Ann Skager Trail Loop\, a four-mile journey that will lead us to the park’s nature center. We’ll pause for lunch at the picnic area before retracing our steps back to the trailhead. The path includes both paved and dirt sections\, and the terrain is gentle\, with a 100-foot elevation gain and loss\, making it a moderate hike suitable for most skill levels. \nTransportation Options:\nHFS is offering bus transportation to Malibu Creek. The bus will depart from Live Oak Park in Temple City at 8:00 AM\, with a second stop at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino at 8:45 AM. Our goal is to arrive at the park around 9:45 AM. After the hike\, we’ll head back to Encino aiming to get there by 3:00 PM and Temple City by 4:00 PM. You’ll receive exact pickup details once you RSVP. \nIf you prefer to drive yourself\, plan to meet us at the trailhead by 9:45 AM. Final meeting details will be confirmed closer to the event. \n \nCalling All Sighted Guides:\nHFS hiking events give visually impaired (VIP) participants the chance to experience nature\, and we depend on the help of sighted guides to make it happen. We welcome new and experienced volunteers alike! No prior guiding experience is required—just a willingness to help. If this will be your first time volunteering with HFS and/or this will be your first time being a sighted guide\, please contact Racquel at 818-457-1482 for a brief training session. \nRSVP Instructions:\nTo RSVP\, please use the links provided below: “I’ll be there\,” “I want to volunteer\,” or “I’m coming with a guest.” Your contact details will be forwarded directly to us upon submission. If you’re bringing guests\, email their names and contact information to hearts4sight@gmail.com. Be sure to have your guests RSVP directly\, as forwarding your invitation could replace your own RSVP. \nThis is your chance to spend a day in the great outdoors\, enjoying beautiful scenery and connecting with fellow nature lovers. Grab your hiking boots and come join us at Malibu Creek State Park for a day of exploration and fun! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Discover The Beauty of Malibu Creek State Park\nLOCATION1925 Las Virgenes Rd Calabasas\, CA\, 91302 \nDATE AND TIME10/19/24 8:00am – 10/19/24 4:00pm US/Pacific \nPlease click the link that applies to you. SUMMARY:Wilderness Wonders: Trekking Through Chino Hills and Carbon Canyon Park
DESCRIPTION:Wilderness Wonders: Trekking Through Chino Hills and Carbon Canyon Park\nSunday\, May 19\, 20244500 Carbon Canyon Road Brea\, Ca 92823\n(Meeting at the Discovery Center)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Hearts For Sight (HFS) and Sierra Club are gearing up for another adventure\, this time revisiting the breathtaking landscapes of Chino Hills State Park and Carbon Canyon Park in northern Orange County\, near Brea. \nSpread across 14\,000 acres\, Chino Hills State Park is a tapestry of rolling hills\, expansive grasslands\, and thriving woodlands\, offering a diverse playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Adjacent to it\, Carbon Canyon Regional Park provides a more laid-back\, family-friendly experience\, born from the damming of Carbon Canyon Creek. Despite facing challenges from the 2010 California drought\, a resilient grove of Redwood trees still flourishes within its bounds. \nOur expedition will primarily traverse the Carbon Canyon trail\, featuring smooth dirt paths\, roads\, and occasional concrete sidewalks. The journey kicks off with a refreshing splash as we wade through a shallow creek\, setting the tone for an immersive nature experience. Our trail leads us into the heart of the majestic redwood grove\, offering a sanctuary of shade and tranquility. \nAfter soaking in the natural wonders\, we’ll meander back through the manicured county park\, perhaps pausing for a leisurely lunch on the lush grass or picnic tables. With just four miles to cover and minimal elevation gain of 100 feet\, this trek promises a delightful blend of exploration and relaxation amidst the beauty of nature. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HFS will provide bus transportation from designated pickup spots\, details of which will be shared upon receiving your RSVPs.
