State Parks Hike-Topanga Canyon State Park

Hike With Us at
Topanga Canyon Trippet Ranch

When: Sunday, October 15, 2023
Where: 20828 Entrada Rd, Topanga, CA 90290

Join Hearts For Sight (HFS) along with our partners Sierra Club (SC) and Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) for an exciting expedition in Topanga Canyon Trippet Ranch! Nestled in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains, Topanga Canyon stands as one of the most picturesque hiking destinations in Los Angeles. Trippet Ranch, our starting point, is a well-frequented entry to the trails in this breathtaking locale. We’re thrilled to embark on this adventure on Sunday, October 15, just as the fall season begins to embrace the landscape.

Topanga Canyon boasts a diverse array of flora, including oak trees, California bay laurel, sage, lupine, and many more. Steeped in history, this region was once home to the Chumash/Tongva Indigenous people, later inhabited by Spanish missionaries, Spanish ranchers, and early American ranchers. Today, it belongs to the State of California, inviting everyone to savor its natural beauty. Our hike will span approximately 3-4 miles, providing ample opportunities to soak in the scenery before pausing at benches for a well-deserved lunch, fostering camaraderie. While the initial ascent and descent present a hill climbing that could pose a challenge, particularly for individuals with knee or foot concerns. The descent down this hill will also require caution. However, the remainder of the hike offers a mostly level terrain.

Hearts For Sight (HFS) is arranging transportation via bus from two designated pickup locations. Due to limited seating availability, we kindly request RSVPs for seat reservations, which will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis.

The initial bus pickup will occur at 8:00 AM at Live Oak Park in Temple City. Subsequently, the bus will make a second stop at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino at 9:00 AM. From there, we’ll journey to Topanga Canyon State Park. The return trip is scheduled to arrive back in Encino at 3:00 PM and Temple City at 4:00 PM. Specific addresses for the pickup locations will be provided upon RSVP. For participants with their own means of transportation, you may opt to meet us directly at Topanga using the address provided above

Hearts For Sight’s hiking events consistently require the valuable assistance of sighted guide volunteers. As the interest in our hikes for the visually impaired continues to grow, so does our need for dedicated sighted guides. We encourage you to help us spread the word, as our aim is to provide every visually impaired person (VIP) with their own guide. Previous guiding experience is not necessary.
