Hearts For Sight (HFS) and Sierra Club are gearing up for another adventure, this time revisiting the breathtaking landscapes of Chino Hills State Park and Carbon Canyon Park in northern Orange County, near Brea.

Spread across 14,000 acres, Chino Hills State Park is a tapestry of rolling hills, expansive grasslands, and thriving woodlands, offering a diverse playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Adjacent to it, Carbon Canyon Regional Park provides a more laid-back, family-friendly experience, born from the damming of Carbon Canyon Creek. Despite facing challenges from the 2010 California drought, a resilient grove of Redwood trees still flourishes within its bounds.

Our expedition will primarily traverse the Carbon Canyon trail, featuring smooth dirt paths, roads, and occasional concrete sidewalks. The journey kicks off with a refreshing splash as we wade through a shallow creek, setting the tone for an immersive nature experience. Our trail leads us into the heart of the majestic redwood grove, offering a sanctuary of shade and tranquility.

After soaking in the natural wonders, we’ll meander back through the manicured county park, perhaps pausing for a leisurely lunch on the lush grass or picnic tables. With just four miles to cover and minimal elevation gain of 100 feet, this trek promises a delightful blend of exploration and relaxation amidst the beauty of nature.
