Malibu Creek State Park | State Parks Hike

Discover Malibu Creek State Park
(California Parks Funded)

Join Hearts For Sight (HFS), in collaboration with Sierra Club (SC) and Inspiring Connection Outdoors (ICO), for another unforgettable hiking adventure at the captivating Malibu Creek State Park. Nestled in the heart of the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu, this scenic park has a rich history, having once been inhabited by the Chumash Indians, transformed into a country club, and featured in various movies and television shows. Since 1976, it has welcomed the public as a wilderness area, offering a sanctuary for numerous plants, birds, and animals. With its rugged terrain, mountainous landscapes, meandering waterways, and extensive hiking trails, Malibu Creek State Park promises an incredible outdoor experience.

Our journey will take us along the Ann Skager Trail Loop, leading to the nature center, where we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch in the picturesque picnic area before making our way back to the trailhead. The hike covers approximately four miles and includes well-maintained paved and dirt roads, with limited automobile access, and wide footpaths that traverse rolling terrain with a 100-foot elevation gain/loss.

HFS is pleased to offer bus transportation to Malibu Creek. The bus will depart from Live Oak Park in Temple City at 8:00 AM, with a second pick-up stop at Balboa Sports Complex in Encino at 8:45 AM. We will then journey to Malibu Creek State Park, with return trips to Encino at 3:00 PM and Temple City at 4:00 PM. Specific addresses for pick-up locations will be shared when you RSVP.

Alternatively, you may choose to drive directly to Malibu Creek and meet the group around 9:45 AM. Meeting times at each location will be confirmed closer to the event date.

Sighted Guides Needed: Our hiking events are dedicated to providing visually impaired individuals (VIP) with the opportunity to explore the outdoors. To achieve this, we rely on the assistance of sighted guide volunteers. As interest in our visually impaired hikes continues to grow, so does our need for dedicated guides. Prior guiding experience is not required, as we are committed to ensuring that every VIP participant has their own guide. For a brief guide on sight-guiding, please click on this link.

If you would like to volunteer as a sighted guide or RSVP for this event, please contact Racquel Decipeda via email at hearts4sight@gmail.com or by phone at 818-457-1482.

We look forward to venturing on another enriching adventure at Malibu Creek State Park with you!
